There are many different lens types and options and at Richard
Owens opticians we advise as to the best choice to suit you.
Prescribed for either long distance or reading glasses. We
can prescribe specially thin and lightweight lenses (called
High Index) which optimise the appearance of your glasses
for the highest of prescriptions.
These lenses allow both distance and reading vision with
a visible line across the lens. We can supply any type from
the franklins split (where the lens is cut in two with the
top half for distance and the bottom half for reading) to
the standard D28 in both glass and plastic lens materials.
These are an increasingly popular alternative to bifocals.
Because they have a gradual change in their optical power,
there is no disconcerting jump between your reading and your
distance vision. As a result, varifocal lenses give you better
middle distance focus. They also look more attractive without
the dividing line of bifocals.
Most lenses can now have special coatings applied which
enhance your vision and improve the appearance of your glasses.
In particular we recommend that your lenses have scratch resistant
and anti reflection coatings.
